Property Regeneration
Mission Focus
'Regeneration' is the name we use (borrowed from the United Reform Church in the UK) for our work in partnership with Uniting Church congregations and presbyteries in developing integrated responses to community need. Most often, this takes the form of providing affordable housing and housing for older people (One Church 100 Uses).

Apartments for Life
UnitingCare Harrison is on the cusp of an exciting housing development called 'Apartments for Life'. This development is our adaption of the Humanitas (Netherlands) Apartments for Life concept of housing which enables older people to stay in their homes for the rest of their lives. In the past six years, UnitingCare Harrison has been given management responsibility for independent living units in 10 locations across Melbourne.
Where some older properties do not live up to today's standards and require redevelopment, UnitingCare Harrison's Regeneration Team will undertake the rebuilding. The 'Apartments for Life' concept will see redeveloped apartments offered for sale at market price, with at least 30% of apartments offered as low cost accommodation.
The key principles behind 'Apartments for Life' are:
- Being in control – Boss of your own life
- Active participation – Too much care is worse than too little
- Extended family approach – No 'Us and Them' between staff, residents and families
- A 'Yes' Culture – Positive attitude to any request
Stay tuned for news of this exciting development!
