Partnerships and Projects
Background
For decades the Ivanhoe Uniting Church congregation's vision for its community has been to provide accommodation for older people. In 1968 Wesley Court Homes for the Elderly (comprising 18 retirement units) was opened on Seddon Street and in 1975 a further 8 units were added. The congregation then progressively purchased all of the properties located on Westley Avenue and 2 Ivanhoe Parade with a view to providing considerable additional housing for older people. In the 1990s the congregation had plans drawn up for an apartment block on this aggregated site but did not proceed with them.
Responsibility for Wesley Court and its adjoining properties was transferred to UnitingCare Harrison in 2006. When UnitingCare Harrison was planning to rebuild Wesley Court because the existing buildings could not be brought up to an acceptable standard the congregation asked UnitingCare Harrison to add its 2 further properties at 5 Westley Avenue and 2 Ivanhoe Parade.
